Box Score 4 ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University Trojan baseball team overpowered the Bluefield State College Blues in 3 of 4 games played on March 15-16 at the Whaley Colbert Field.
The Trojans are 13-3 on the season as the inclement weather clears, allowing the team to take the field.
On day 1, seniors Josh Markins and Zach Jordan led VSU in game one with 3 RBIs each while Jordan secured a team lead of 4 runs. Junior
Colton Gunn is credited for the win pitching all 7 innings with 8 strike outs and allowing 4 hits and giving the Blues a run at the top of the 7
th inning. The final score was 10-1.
Senior Nick Christopher took charge of game 2 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs while fellow Trojan junior
Jamison Griffin followed through matching Christopher's RBIs. BSC was on edge as VSU tallied 7 runs and 7 hits in the bottom of the second. Junior Jay Dee Johnson took the win, pitching all 7 innings with 4 strikeouts and only allowing 8 hits and 3 runs. The final score was 9-3.
The Trojans had a slow run in the first game on day 2. VSU got on the board at the bottom of the sixth with a run by Griffin, giving Jordan an RBI. Although Jordan had 4 strikes, he still took the loss after pitching 7 innings and allowing the Blues to earn 2 runs and 8 hits.
The atmosphere changed in game 2 with the Trojans taking the 4-2 victory. Christopher is credited for the win, pitch all 7 innings and giving 4 strikeouts and only allowing 7 hits.
The Trojans will take on Francis Marion College for two single games on March 17 and 18 at the Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of VSU.
