Box Score RICHMOND, Va.- The Trojan women's basketball team took a double-digit win over the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University with a final score 67-57 on February 19. The team currently has a 16-9 overall record, 8-7 in the conference.
VSU shot 41.9 percent (26-62) from the field, 30.8 percent (4-13) from behind the arc and 91.7 percent (11-12) from the free throw line.
Junior
Wynterra Pittman and senior
Da'Shae Jones both led the Trojans and the game in scoring with 16 points each. Pittman was consistent under the basket collecting 9 rebounds for the night. Seniors
Jessica Lyons and
DeAnna Waters both came away with 14 points over the Lady Panthers.
The Trojans controlled the court, keeping the Lady Panthers down for majority of the first half. VUU rallied back with 6:53 left in the half with a score of 21-20. The Trojans lost the lead for a split second, but regained controlled when Lyons went to the line for two shots. As both teams fought for the lead, VSU fell short at halftime score of 31-29.
Waters started the second half off with a layup to tie the game 31-31. The battle for the lead was over when Jones secured two shots at the line and followed through with a clean three pointer bringing the score to 44-38. Regaining control of the game gave the Trojans their 67-57 win over their I-95 rivals.
VSU will travel to Lincoln, Pa. on Saturday, February 21 for their last regular season game to play the Lady Lions of The Lincoln University. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
