Box Score ETTRICK, Va. - The Virginia State University Women's Basketball team wrapped up Day two of their Thanksgiving Classic with a tough loss to Shaw University, 60-57.
The loss moves the Trojans to a 2 -3 overall record on the season.
VSU shot 23.5 percent (8-34) from the field, 25 percent (3-12) from behind the arc, and 0 percent (0-2) from the line in the first half.
Junior
Nandi Taylor (Flint, MI) led the Trojans in scoring with 17 points, junior
Domonique Hagins (Washington, DC) followed up recording 14 points, and senior
Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) rounded out the double digit scoring with 11 points. Pittman led the Trojans with 10 rebounds.
The Trojans got off to a slow start after trailing the Bears by 14 points heading into halftime. VSU battled their way back into a close game out scoring Shaw in the 3rd and 4th quarter. VSU cut the Bears lead to 3 points in the final seconds, but still came up short.
The Trojans shot 44.4 percent (16-36) from the field, 50 percent (6-12) from behind the arc, and 0 percent (0-0) from the line in the second half.
VSU Women's Basketball team will travel to Charlotte, NC on Sunday, December 6 to take on Johnson C. Smith University at 3:30 p.m.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
