Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University Trojans women's basketball team defeated the Nyack College Warriors, 81-75, on day 1 of the Trojans Thanksgiving Classic.

The win advances the Trojans to a 2-2 overall record.

VSU shot 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor, 66.7 percent (4-6) from behind the arc, and 54.8 percent (23-42) from the foul line.

Senior Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) recorded her fourth straight double-double of the season by leading the Trojans with 20 points, 14 rebounds. Teammate junior Nandi Taylor (Mt. Morris, Mich.) was close behind with 19 points. Junior Joy Hickman (Wilmington, DE) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points.

VSU started the game off strong in the first quarter, holding the Warriors under 10 points until the last 15 seconds of the quarter with a score of 27-10. The second quarter was no different as the Trojans reached a 21 lead with 7:47 left in the half. The Warriors attempted to bounce back, but VSU controlled the court going into halftime with a score of 44-31.

Although there were several missed shots and fouls from both team in the third quarter of the game, the Trojans held the lead with a score of 52-43 at the end of the third. The Warriors closed the double digit scoring gap with 1:10 left in the game. With several last second fouls on Nyack, the Trojans were able to hold the lead and take the game with an 81-75 victory.

The Trojans will take the court on Saturday, November 28 at 3pm against the Shaw University Bears for day 2 of the Trojans Thanksgiving Classic in Daniel Gymnasium.

The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
