Volleyball Gears up for CIAA Championship

ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University volleyball team is gearing up for the 2015 CIAA Championship on November 20-22 in Fayetteville, NC. The Trojans are currently ranked no. 2 in the CIAA Northern Division.

The Trojans hold an 18-8 overall record, 13-3 in the conference and 9-1 in the division.

VSU will begin their championship play in a match up against the Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos on Friday, November 20 at 6 p.m.
Under the leadership of second year head coach Rose White, the Trojans have worked hard this season. "I anticipate that if play well and things come together the way they did during our last few matches, we have a shot at winning the championship," said Coach White. "Nothing is going to be given to us and with stiff competition, we have to continue to work hard."

The championship tournament will be played at the Felton J. Capel Arena on the campus of Fayetteville State University. Single elimination play will begin on Friday, November 20th at 12 noon with the Chowan Hawks taking on the Livingstone Blue Bears. The Rams of Winston-Salem State will play the Lions of Lincoln (Pa.) at 2 p.m. and the Shaw Bears will face the Virginia Union Panthers at 4 p.m. The hosting Fayetteville State Broncos will close out the first round with a 6 p.m. match-up against the Virginia State Trojans.

The CIAA will host a volleyball clinic for youth ages 11 to 18 on Saturday, November 21st from 8:30 am until 11 a.m. The clinic is free, but limited to the first 80 registrants. Head coaches from the participating institutions and members of the 2015 All-CIAA Volleyball Team will conduct the interactive fundamentals sessions with a focus on self-improvement and motivational life skills.
