Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Virginia State University women's basketball team fell short of win in the final game of the PSAC-CIAA Tournament against Seton Hill with a score of 59-56.
The Trojans currently have a 0-2 overall record to open the 2015-16 season.
VSU shot 37.5 percent (24-64) from the field, 18.2 percent (2-11) from behind the arc and 100 percent (6-6) from the free throw line.
Senior
Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL) led the Trojans and the game, securing a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Junior
Joy Hickman (Wilmington, DE) also chipped in 16 points for the Trojans.
VSU and Seton Hill were evenly matched in the first quarter as both teams battled back and forth down the court for the lead. The Trojans fell behind slightly in the second quarter as Seton Hill picked up the pace. VSU went into the locker room at halftime trailing, 29-23.
It was a slow run in the third quarter for the Trojans as they worked to stay in the game. Hickman put VSU back on track with a shot from behind the arc in the fourth quarter, bringing the Trojans with 8 points of the lead. Several good shots in the paint closed the scoring gap, but wasn't enough win the game. The final score of the night was 59-56.
The Trojans will take on Newport News Apprentice School on November 18 at 5:30pm in Daniel Gymnasium.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home basketball games this season.
