ETTRICK, Va. - The Virginia State University Women's Basketball team will begin their 2015-16 season on the road in Slippery Rock, PA for the PSAC-CIAA Tournament on November 13-14. The Trojans will take on Slippery Rock on Friday, November 13 at 5:30pm and Seton Hill on Saturday, November 14 at 2pm.
VSU is predicted to finish first in the CIAA Northern Division and second in the conference. The Trojans are the reigning CIAA Champions under the leadership of Head Coach James Hill Jr. Last season, the Trojans recorded a 20 -10 overall record.
The Trojans are returning six players from last seasons championship team to include the 2015-16 CIAA Preseason Team pick senior
Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, FL). Last season, Pittman averaged 6.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Coach Hill has added several new faces to the roster this season. "We have a lot of of new players that are still learning the system, but we are excited that the season is about to start," said Coach Hill. "We are ready for this weekend and hope we can get two wins."
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home volleyball and football games this season.
