Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University Trojans volleyball team split day 1 as they host the CIAA Roundup. In game 1, VSU fell short against the Lady Rams of Winston Salem State University, 3-1, and took down Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College, 3-0.
The Trojans are currently 14-8 overall, 9-3 in the conference.
In the 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 18-25, 15-25) game 1 against the Lady Rams, rookie
Tiara Ramey (Grovetown, GA) led the Trojans with 15 kills while junior
Adriana Hazou (Woodbridge, VA) tallied 25 digs.
VSU dominated the court in set 2, holding on the lead after tying with WSSU 5 times.
In the 3 set sweep (25-18, 25-19, 25-5) against the Lady Blue Bears, junior
Dierdre Carter took the helm with 13 kills while Hazou chipped in 16 digs.
The Trojans dominated the court keeping LC from obtaining 20 points in sets 1 and 2 while holding them to under 10 points in the final set.
VSU will be back in action on Sunday, November 1 to take on the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University for day 2 of the CIAA Roundup in Daniel Gymnasium. The first serve is set for 11 a.m.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home volleyball and football games this season.
