Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University Trojans Volleyball team took down the Bluefield State College Blues in a non-conference matchup on October 24. The final score of the night was 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20).
The Trojans move to a 12-7 overall record while the Lady Blues drop to a 17-5 record. VSU gave the Lady Blues their first loss after having a 14 game winning streak.
Junior
Dierdre Carter (Winchester, VA) led the Trojans and the game with 16 kills while teammate rookie
Tiara Ramey (Grovetown, GA) chipped in 10 kills. Junior
Adriana Hazou (Woodbridge, VA) added 15 digs to the books for VSU.
Tyann Thomas of the Lady Blues led her team with 12 kills while Jesse Rehwald collected 12 digs.
The Trojans had a slow run in set 1 as they warmed up to the Lady Blues strategies. After falling short in set 1, 19-25, VSU rallied back for the remainder of the sets to take the overall win.
VSU will travel to Elizabeth City, NC to take on the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings on Sunday, October 25 at 3pm.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home volleyball and football games this season.
