ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University football team will take on St. Augustine's University at Rogers Stadium on October 3 for the McDonald's Take A Kid to the Game/ Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
The Trojans enter Saturday's competition with a 2-2 overall record, 0-1 in the CIAA conference. VSU defeated St. Augustine's last season with a final score of 42-35. The Trojans are predicted to finish 2
nd overall in the CIAA while the Falcons are predicted to finish 11
th in the conference.
Sophomore running back
Trenton Cannon (Hampton, VA) leads the Trojan offense with 418 yards on 78 carries for the season. Senior wide receiver
Jaivon Smallwood (Virginia Beach, VA) leads the Trojans in receptions with 223 yards on 19 attempts.
Defensively the Trojans are led by sophomore linebacker
Brandon Lynch (Norfolk, VA) with 26 tackles total (20 solo) and 2 sacks.
Jamal Parker leads the Falcon offense with 144 yards on 7 receptions, while Terry Warren leads the Falcons defensively recording 39 tackles total (17 solo).
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. Canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The
Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home football and volleyball games this season.
