Box Score RICHMOND, Va.- The Virginia State University Trojan Volleyball Team advances to a 11-7 overall record, 7-2 in the conference after defeating the Virginia Union University Lady Panthers 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 31-29, 25-16) on October 19.
Rookie
Tiara Ramey (Grovetown, GA) led the Trojans and the game with 21 kills while teammate rookie
Sydney Uko (Hacienda Heights, CA) collected 10 kills. VUU's Ambryanna Moore led her team with 10 kills for the night.
Junior
Adriana Hazou (Woodbridge, VA) recorded 24 digs while sophomore
Miranda Bass (Newberry, FL) collected 44 assists.
The Trojans dominated the court in set 1, holding the lead to a final score of 25-18. In set 2, the Lady Panthers rallied back, tying the score and taking the 25-20 win. It was a back and forth battle in set 3 as the Trojans worked to stay ahead. With the score tied 29-29, Ramey took the helm with two kills for the 31-29 win. Set 4 was equally matched for both teams as the scores remained close. After a kill by Ramey and an error by VUU, the Trojans kicked their game into high gear, leaving the Lady Panthers behind with a set 4 score of 25-16.
VSU will take the court on Saturday, October 24 in Daniel Gymnasium to take on the Bluefield State College at 2pm.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home volleyball and football games this season.
