Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The Trojans women's basketball team secured their first win of 2015 over the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University (FSU) with a final score of 67-55.
The Trojans currently have a 9-2 overall record, 1-0 in the conference.
VSU shot 47.3 percent (26-55) from the field, 53.8 percent (7-13) from behind the arc and 61.5 percent (8-13) from the free throw line.
Senior
Da'Shae Jones led the Trojans in scoring with 20 points while securing 3 assists and 1 steal. Senior
Cana Marriott was not too far behind with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Senior Jessica Lyon also added 10 points and 3 rebounds to the books.
Jones and Lyons started the game off with back-to-back 3 pointers to put the Trojans on the board. The Trojans took a 21 point lead over the Lady Broncos with 11:08 left in the half. FSU worked to close the gap but was no match for the Trojan defense.
VSU went into halftime with a score of 36-23.
The Trojans continued to work in the second half as the Lady Broncos attempted to rally for the win. VSU was up by 9 with under a minute left in regulation. The Trojans took advantage of the final foul shots of the game, coming out victorious, 67-55.
VSU out lived the Lady Broncos with 22 points off turnovers and 24 points in the paint.
The Trojans will take the court on Monday, January 5 against the Bears of Shaw University in Daniel Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
