Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.- The VSU women's basketball team advances to a 13-5 overall record after taking down the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on January 24 with a final score of 76-74.
VSU shot 50.0 percent (26-52) from the field, 40.0 percent (6-15) from behind the arc and 75.0 percent (18-24) from the free throw line.
Leading the game and the Trojans in scoring and assists was senior
Da'Shae Jones with 28 points and 7 assists. Senior
Tiffanie Adair followed through with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the Trojans.
The Trojans had a slow first half trailing the Lady Vikings. Jones put the women within 6 points of ECSU for a halftime score of 38-32. The Lady Vikings felt the heat from the Trojans with 4:28 left in regulation in the second half. A shot from Adair tied the game up 67-67, giving the Trojans a chance at a win. VSU took the lead with 4 good foul shots followed by a missed 3 pointer from ECSU with 0:46 left on the clock. Jones secured a shot in the paint but the Lady Vikings collected a shot behind the arc bring the score to 75-74, Trojans up. Senior
Jessica Lyons sealed the deal with a good free throw shot, giving the Trojans the 76-74 victory.
VSU is currently 5-3 in the CIAA conference, 3-0 in the division.
The Trojans will take the court in Bowie, MD on Wednesday, January 28 to face the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University at 5:30 p.m.
