CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Virginia State volleyball team wrapped up the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Round-Up, undefeated on Sunday afternoon. Dierdre Carter led all players with a career-high of 21 kills to help lead the Trojans past Johnson C. Smith (25-23, 25-19, and 25-20). This is the third consecutive win for the Trojans.
 
Virginia State improves to 7-4 on the year and 4-1 in conference play while the Lady Golden Bulls drop to 5-4 on the season and 5-3 in league play.
 
During the first set, both teams went point for point to tie the game at 23 before the Trojans managed to secure the victory as Dierdre Carter accounted for two kills to seal the win. In the second set, JCSU started out with a 2-0 lead until the Trojans answered back to tie the game at three. Virginia State never looked back as they took the lead and secured the win for the second set.
 
The Trojans continued the momentum going in to the third set to lead the Lady Golden Bulls by as many as seven on several occasions before JCSU fought back to trail by three near the end of the game. Kills by Dierdre Carter and Alexsys Pullen would edge out the Lady Golden Bulls as Virginia State notched the final frame to take the match, 3-0.
 
Alexsys Pullen paced with 10 kills, following Miranda Bass who hauled 30 assist while Adriana Hazou collected 15 digs on the day.
 
For the Lady Golden Bulls, Saleese Stovall led with six kills. Jane Tukia totaled 14 assists and Imeshia Jones collected 12 digs.
 
The Trojans return to action on October 2^nd when they play host to Chowan. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.

The VSU Athletic Department continues its "1000 Cans, One Goal: campaign initiative at every home game through Friday. Nov. 21. The purpose of the initiative is to support the local food banks in helping feed the less fortunate during the holiday season. Donors are asked to either bring can goods to any VSU athletic home game (football, basketball, volleyball and/or cross-country) and/or drop your items off to the Athletic Department.
