ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University Baseball team took down the Bluefield State College Blues in a three game sweep on April 5 and 6 at Whaley Colbert Field.
The nine inning single game on April 5 left the Trojans victorious 4-1.
Senior
Percy Evans (Cary, NC) dominated the field with two RBI's followed by sophomore
Johnny Rowe (Petersburg, VA) with a single.
Junior
Nicholas Christopher (Dinwiddie, VA) stepped up and stole home giving the Trojans a point, outside of RBI's.
After nine innings, sophomore pitcher
Colton Gunn took (Dinwiddie, VA) the win with 10 strike outs.
On day two, senior
Demetrius Roach (Chicago, IL) was on fire for games one and two.
In game one, Roach along with teammate sophomore
Corey Grant (Dinwiddie, VA) led the Trojans with three RBI's each. Sophomore
Tashaun Taylor (Richmond, VA) came in to contribute a single RBI.
Sophomore
Zachery Jordan took the mound and the win in game one with five strike outs.
Bluefield State attempted to put up a fight in game two, but could not defeat the Trojans after nine innings. The final score was 9-8.
Tyler Colman (Chesterfield, VA) and brothers junior Joshua and freshman
David Markins all contributed two RBI's.
Zachery Jordan and
Colton Gunn each finished with single RBI's.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Bluefield State intentionally walked Roach after having two great hits earlier in the game.
Senior
Rodell Stewart (Dinwiddie, VA) took the mound to finish up where senior
Brandon Cooper (Richmond, VA) and senior
Maso Cotton (Vauxhall, NJ) left off. Cooper gave Bluefield State two strike outs.
Virginia State currently has a 22-15 overall record, 12-7 conference.
The Trojans will be back in action on April 9 to take on the Lincoln University Lions at for a single game in Lincoln, PA at 3:00 p.m.
