ETTRICK, VA- After a weekend of rainy weather, the Virginia State University Baseball team was able to take the field on March 31 to go up against St. Augustine's University for a double header conference game.
Game one was under way at 5:00pm on Whaley Colbert Field. Both teams put up a fight, but after 9 innings, the Trojans were victorious with a 3-2 score.
Sophomore
Zachery Jordan's (Chesterfield, VA) RBI in the bottom of the 9th gave Virginia State the game winning point. Teammates junior
Tyler Coleman (Chesterfield, VA) and freshman
David Markins (Colonial Heights, VA), also contributed RBI's in the game.
Sophomore pitcher
Colton Gunn (Dinwiddie, VA) led the team to a win giving the Falcons six strike outs.
The second game started after night fall. The Trojans took a loss to the Falcons after 7 innings with a final score, 9-0.

Despite the loss, pitcher
Zachery Jordan gave the Falcons 7 strike outs.
Virginia State and St. Augustine's faced again on April 1 for another double header at Whaley Colbert Field beginning at 1:00pm.
Game one was closely contested. The Falcons dominated early in the game with five runs in the top of the 3rd inning. The Trojans responded by scoring five runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th inning. However, they failed to hold off the Falcons as they scored a run in each of the last two innings to win the game with a final score,, 8-7.
Freshman
David Markins (Colonial Heights, VA) was credited with 3 RBI's. Teammates junior
Tyler Coleman (Chesterfield, VA) and junior Nick Christopher (Dinwiddie, VA) were also credited for RBI's.
The Trojans dominated the majority of the second game and was able to hold off the Falcons with a final score of 10-6.
Sophomore
Jamison Griffin (Newport News, VA) led the team with 3 RBI's. Sophomores
Tashaun Taylor (Richmond, VA) and Zachary Jordan (Chesterfield, VA) followed with 2 RBI'S a piece.
Nick Christopher led the Trojans pitching with 3 strikeouts.
Virginia State will continue their season on April 2 on the road as they take on North Carolina Central University in a double header beginning at 4:00pm.
