ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University Baseball team went up against the Chowan University Hawks on Day one of the 2014 CIAA Spring Sport Championship. After 9 innings, the Trojans defeated the Hawks 8-6.
 
Junior Joshua Markins (Colonial Heights, VA) stepped up to earn three RBI's, followed by sophomore Colton Gunn (Dinwiddie, VA) with two and junior Tyler Coleman(Chesterfield, VA), senior Percy Evans (Cary, NC) and sophomore Tashaun Taylor (Richmond, VA) with one each.
 
Junior Nicholas Christopher (Dinwiddie, VA) relieved Colton Gunn at the mound in the seventh inning. Gunn was credited for the win with six strikeouts, five errors and four walks and Christopher was credit with the save.
