Box Score SALEM, WV – The Virginia State University Women's basketball team beat Salem International University, 75-63, at the Joe Manchin Classic in Salem, WV on December 12.
The victory puts the Trojans at a 6-2 overall record, while the SIU Tigers receive their 11
th straight lose.
VSU shot 40.0 percent (26-65) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-19) from behind the arc and 78.3 percent (18-23) from the free throw line.
Senior
Tiffanie Adair played her seventh double-double game, earning 21 points and 11 rebounds. She also gave the Trojans one assist, three blocks and two steals. Senior
Da'Shae Jones collected 20 points, four rebounds, six assists and one steal for the women. Rounding out the double-digit scoring was senior
Cana Marriott with 15 points, two rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Adair and Jones took the lead for the Trojans in the first half, both securing 5-of-7 field goals. Jones also added 3-of-4 three pointers to the books. At the half the Trojans were in the lead, 39-34.
In the second half, Adair and Marriott played the court to finish the game. Marriott earned 13 of her 15 points in the half.
Virginia State dominated the SIU Tigers with 30 bench points, 15 points off turnovers and 28 points in the paint.
The Trojans will play West Virginia University Parkersburg in Salem, WV on Saturday, December 13 at 1 p.m. for day two of the Joe Manchin Classic hosted by the SIU Tigers.
