Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – Spartanburg, S.C. native,
Tiffanie Adair led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Virginia State University women's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack to get by the Lady Wildcats of Wilmington University, 81-57, in the final game of the 2014 Chick-Fil-A Classic.
Wynterra Pittman (Graceville, Fla.) recorded a double-double with 16 points while snatching 14 rebounds, following
Cana Marriott (Wendell, N.C.) who charted 15 points and
Jessica Lyons (Upper Marlboro, Md.) added 14 points.
The Trojans scored 19 points off of Wilmington turnovers and earned 23 points off of second chances.
Virginia State sparked a 10-0 run led by Lyons who nailed two 3-pointers to start the game off for the Trojans. Wilmington was kept scoreless until Cari Callaway netted a free-throw to give the Lady Wildcats its first point of the game.
The Lady Wildcats would chip away and get within three, but a good jumper from Pittman capped off a 5-0 run that sent VSU into the locker room with a 35-30 advantage.
Once again Wilmington would make a run to start the second half as they managed to get within two points and take the lead at the 11:06 mark but a 3-pointer by Marriott would ignite a Trojans 8-0 spurt that gain VSU a 63-53 lead.
The Trojans would hold the Lady Wildcats at a stand-still, never allowing the lead to shrink to less than 1o points the rest of the contest as they went on to secure its fourth straight win.
The Trojans return to action on Sunday, Dec. 7
th when they travel to Edinboro, Pa. in a head to head match-up with Edinboro University. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m.
