Women’s Basketball Breaks School Record

The Virginia State University women's basketball team defeated the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State in their first conference play game of the season. Winning this game gave the Trojans a 10-0 record which is the best record since 1989-90 when the Lady Trojans had a 9-0 record.  The first six minutes of play the Trojans when back in forth with the Broncos for the lead.  Tina Frisby's jumper tied the game 12-12 with 12:09 remaining on the clock. The Trojans left the Broncos in their dust, leading them by 10 points at the end of the half with a score of 30-20.
 
After halftime the Trojans kept up the momentum as the Broncos tried to get back in the game. The Broncos found their way back into the game tying it 48-48 with 6:09 left on the clock.  Just as in the first half, the teams went back and forth with the lead tying the game three more times.   With 1:34 left on the clock the Trojans went into gear with a shot from Lamesha Deal to put the Trojans in the lead 55-53. The Broncos fouled the Trojans giving them three additional free throw points to win the game 58-53.
 
Deal finished the game with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and one block. Teammate Jessica Lyons attained 15 points, three rebounds and two steals while Tiffanie Adair secured 12 points, 11 rebounds and one block.

The Trojans will be taking on the Shaw Bears on Monday, January 6 at 6:00pm in Raleigh, NC.
