Trojan Women's Hoops Fall to Lady Panthers 64-50

VSU allowed the Lady Panthers' offense to shoot 41% from the field in a 64-50 loss for the Trojans against their cross town rivals in Richmond, VA on Saturday, February 9th.

The Trojans had a tough time controlling the pace throughout the first half of play. VUU dominated with 20 points in the paint and shot 41% from the field. The Trojans went 6 for 27 in the first half led by Alexandria Massado's seven points. She also made all three of her free-throw attempts for VSU. Lamesha Deal crashed the boards grabbing six rebounds in the first half but the Trojans found themselves trailing by seventeen points at the half (32-15).
Da'Shae Jones sparked the Trojans in the second half with eight points. The Lady Panthers continued their defensive pressure holding the Trojans to 40% shooting in the second half. Solid offensive play from Da'Shae Jones and Alexandria Massado kept Virginia State close in the matchup with their cross town rival.

Although, VSU outscored the Lady Panthers 3-32 in the second half of play, their double-digit deficit in the first half was too much to overcome. VUU's Ashle Freeman scored a game-high 27 points, willing her Lady Panthers to a 64-50 victory.

Alexandria Massado led Virginia State with 15 points and Da'Shae Jones pitched in with ten points. Lamesha Deal added eight points but had a game-high 13 rebounds.

Virginia State falls to 10-12 overall with a 2-4 CIAA Northern Divisional record after their loss to Virginia Union. The Trojans travel to Murfreesboro, NC on Wednesday, February 13th in their next game. VSU picked up a 60-51 win at home against Chowan in their last matchup.
