Trojans Drop Second In a Row With 75-66 Loss to Lady Bulldogs

Box Score
By: Reshawn Garnett, VSU Sports Information Intern

Da'Shea Jones scored 20 points to lead all scorers but to no avail as the Trojans fall to CIAA rival Bowie State University, 75-66 on Wednesday, January 30th in Bowie, MD.

The Trojans got off to a slow start. VSU trailed by as much as 15 points in the first half. VSU struggled mightily from the field shooting under 30% early in the first half.  However, the Trojans did a great job of drawing fouls and getting to the foul line. They were 60% from the charity stripe by the end of the opening half. Any coach will tell you free throws make a difference. VSU's Da'Shae Jones knocked down four consecutive free throws to cut the Lady Bulldogs advantage back to single digits. Pryncess Tate-Dublin hit a jumper following Jones' free throws to cut the lead even further. The Trojans would chop the Lady Bulldogs lead down to four before the break thanks to Da'Shea Jones. Jones answered the bell knocking down a buzzer beating two making it a 36-32 game after the first 20 minutes of play. Jones led the Trojans by the end of one half with 13 points. Lamesha Deal scored six points and Pryncess Tate-Dublin ended up with five points.

Da'Shea Jones opened the second half similar to the first half, H-O-T. Jones nailed two threes to open the half cutting the Lady Bulldog's lead to one point. Unfortunately despite the Trojans hot start the Lady Bulldog's were able to pull their lead back up to double digits at the 13:07 mark. Nonetheless VSU wouldn't go quietly. Kiara Walton knocked down two free throws to make it a two possession game with 7:58 remaining. Despite the Trojans best efforts, VSU couldn't overtake the Lady Bulldog's in the second half after cutting down three Bowie State double digit leads. Da'Shea Jones scored a game-high 20 points. Pryncess Tate-Dublin ended up with 12 points off the VSU bench. Lamesha Deal and Kiara Walton both scored 11 points each in the Trojans 75-66 loss to the Lady Bulldogs. With this loss the Trojans drop to 2-8 in CIAA play and 9-11 overall.

The VSU Trojans will look to end a two game skid against Lincoln University at home in Daniels Gymnasium on Saturday February 2nd. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.in Petersburg, VA.
