The Trojans had three players scoring in double-figures but shot 33% from the field against the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College. Dashae Jones had a game-high 22 points with six assists.
Lamesha Deal added 18 points and six rebounds while Princess Tate-Dublin sparked the Trojans bench with 11 points and five rebounds.
Princess Tate-Dublin made 9 of 10 attempts from the free-throw line as Virginia State shot a season-best 84% (25-30).
Brianna Holt went a perfect 6 of 6 and
Lamesha Deal was 4 of 7 from the charity stripe.
Virginia State trailed Livingstone by 15 points in the first half but battled back, cutting the lead to three points at the half 33-30. The Trojans finally reclaimed the lead in the second half on free-throws made by
Brianna Holt and Dashae Jones with 3:51 remaining in the game (66-63). Livingstone scored five points in the final two minutes of the game making the game interesting. With nine seconds left in regulation, Livingstone had a two point lead but fouled VSU's
Brianna Holt. Holt made both free-throws sending the game into overtime.
The Lady Blue Bears controlled the overtime period outscoring the Trojans 11-7. VSU drops to 0-5 in the CIAA with a 7-8 overall record after their 83-79 overtime loss to Livingstone. The Trojans look to end their current losing streak Monday, January 14
th against Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC at 5:30 p.m.
