Volleyball’s Jasmine Davis Shines on Senior Night

Virginia State University's volleyball team swept Bowie State University 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-9) in straight-sets in their final home game of the 2012 season on Thursday, Nov. 8th in Daniel Gymnasium. VSU's Jasmine Davis (Sr./ Oakton, VA) tied for a game-high
8 kills along with teammate Aubree Parker (Jr./ Fort Pierce, FL).
 
Three volleyball seniors played their final match in Daniel Gymnasium as a Trojan. Seniors Jasmine Davis, Cherish Richardson (New Haven, CT), and Nikkisha Walker (St. Louis, MO) were all honored prior to the game.

After a slow start in the first set, the Trojans pulled together and went on to defeat the Lady Bulldogs in straight sets. Setter Jasmine Henderson (Jr./ St. Louis, MO) recorded a game-high 24 assists as the Trojans scored 30 kills. Jasmine Davis and Aubree Parker led VSU with 8 kills each, while Cherish Richardson added 6 kills.

VSU's Jenessa Shinauld (So./ Sacramento, CA) had a game-high 21 digs. The Trojans snagged 76 defensive digs compared to 68 by the Lady Bulldogs. Two other Trojans hit double-digits as Jasmine Henderson and Aubree Parker had 12 and 11 total digs respectively. Seniors Cherish Richardson and Nikkisha Walker pitched in combining for 15 digs.

The Trojans finished their 2012 regular season with a 14-10, 13-3 record. Head volleyball coach Ivana Rich has guided her team to 14 wins approaching post season play, the most wins by a VSU volleyball team since the 2004 season. VSU will begin their run at the 2012 CIAA Volleyball Championships next Friday, November 17th in Hampton, VA at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
