Box Score The Trojans
Lamesha Deal (Jr./ Norfolk, VA) and Princess Tate-Dublin led Virginia State University's women's basketball team in scoring, but the Trojans were defeated by Panthers 62-61 on Sunday, November 12
th in Elizabeth City, NC. Deal recorded a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Tate-Dublin had 11 points.
After trailing Claflin for the early portion of the game, VSU rallied back to take the lead at the 5:19 mark in the second half, 48-47. The Trojans held onto a slim lead until the final seconds of the game. After two straight VSU turnovers with just under twenty seconds remaining in the game, Claflin was able to reclaim the lead with two seconds left in the game on an offensive rebound and put back by Claflin's Tylesha Brown. The Trojans were unable to get off a final shot and lost in a close game 62-61 to the Panthers.
Virginia State made 46% of their shots in the second half after shooting a miserable 22% in the first half. The Trojans held the Panthers to 36% shooting throughout the game but were outrebounded 50-39. VSU converted on 15 of 22 attempts from the free-throw line and forced 29 Claflin turnovers.

Yashica Blakney (Sr./ Greenville, SC) and
Jasmine Stewart (Sr./ Washington, DC) both had eight points while
Brianna Holt (Sr./ Selmer, TN) added seven points. Blakney, Stewart, and Holt all hit shots from three-point range rallying the Trojans comeback against the Panthers.
Lamesha Deal grabbed eight offensive boards as she recorded 11 total rebounds.
Ashley Whitaker pitched in defensively with eight rebounds and Pricess Tate-Dublin led the Trojans dishing out three assists.
The Trojans (1-1) will open at home on Saturday, Nov. 17
th against Cheyney University at 2:00 pm in Daniel Gymnasium.
