Virginia State University's men's cross country team combined for 83 team points, placing second overall at the 2012 CIAA Cross Country Championships held in Cary, NC at WakeMed soccer Park on Thursday, Oct. 18th. Four Trojans finished in the top 20 runners, led by Prince Owusu-Mensah's (So./ Woodbridge, VA) ninth place finish in 27:07.30.
St. Augustine's won the men's title with an overall team score of 48 points. The Trojans followed in second place (83), while Bowie State took third place with 106 points. Winston-Salem State placed a close fourth (107), Shaw was fifth (110), Lincoln placed sixth (133), and Fayetteville State placed seventh (179). Chowan placed eighth (214), Johnson C. Smith placed ninth (227), Livingstone tenth (231), Virginia Union eleventh (260), and Elizabeth City State finished twelfth with 333 points.
VSU's Prince Owusu-Mensah carried the Trojans to a second place finish placing ninth individually in 27:07.30. Three Trojan runners finished in consecutive order as LeMontre Taylor (So./ Goochland, VA) ran 28:08.70 placing sixteenth, Chris Henry (R-So./ Upper Marlboro, MD) ran 28:11.70 placing seventeenth, and Justin Pittman (So./ Dale City, VA) ran 28:14.00 placing eighteenth individually.
VSU's Andre McIntyre (Sr./ Newport News, VA) placed 23rd (28:29.60) and Xavier Wright (Fr./ Willingboro, NJ) placed 31st (29:28.30) rounding out the Trojans.
