Virginia State's Quiana Kizer scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in a 71-52 home win over Mercy College on Friday, Nov. 25 on the opening day of the Chic-Fil-A Classic.

Kizer, a junior, made 5 of 6 shots, and added nine rebounds for the Lady Trojans. She went 8 for 8 at the free-throw line and scored 8 points in the first half and 10 points in the second. Virginia State made a season best 21 of 29 free-throws against Mercy and improved their record to 3-3 overall.

Junior LaMesha Deal scored 10 points and senior Mariame Sylla had 7 points for the Lady Trojans. VSU led the entire way and scored 30 points off of Mercy's 25 turnovers while holding the Lady Mavericks to 30 percent shooting.

Jasmine Williams and Simone Williams were the only Lady Mavericks to score in double figures. Jasmine led with 15 points and Simone has 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Mercy made 11 of 24 attempts from the free-throw line and only nailed one shot from three-point land.

The Lady Trojans will face Augusta State at 4:00 pm on the final day of the Chic-Fil-A Classic on Saturday, Nov. 26 in Daniel Gymnasium.
