Seth Cheatham, M.D.

Dr. Seth Cheatham was appointed the Team Physician in 2020.

In addition to Virginia State, Dr. Cheatham serves as a team physician for Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Union University and Longwood University. He also provides medical coverage to the San Francisco Giants' AA baseball affiliate, the Richmond Flying Squirrels. In the past, he has also served as a team physician for the University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University and the Kentucky Horsemen arena football team.

Richmond Magazine has named Dr. Cheatham the “Top Doc” in Sports Medicine in 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2014, and 2013.

Dr. Cheatham specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy. Interests include complex knee ligament reconstruction, revision ACL reconstruction, double-bundle ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, meniscus transplantation, cartilage restoration surgery, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, ankle arthroscopy, and foot/ankle sports injuries.

Dr. Cheatham is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Virginia Orthopaedic Society and the Richmond Orthopaedic Club. He is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine and board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Cheatham completed his undergraduate study at Emory University, went to medical school at University of Nebraska College of Medicine, completed his residency of Orthopaedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, and his fellowship of sports medicine at University of Kentucky.
