Virginia State University Athletics

Roland T. Lovelace, Jr. has served in the capacity of Head Athletic Trainer at VSU since September 2016. Lovelace is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and has been a certified athletic trainer since 2004.  

Lovelace is responsible for the athletic training program at VSU that encompasses 17 varsity athletic sports.  Lovelace is responsible for the injury prevention, treatment, recognition, evaluation, and other administrative duties as assigned.

Lovelace is a 2003 graduate of North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training.  Lovelace also is a 2005 graduate of Virginia Tech with a master of science in education. 

Lovelace has had many athletic training experiences along the way including an internship with the Baltimore Ravens in the summer of 2003.  Lovelace has worked at many different universities in the capacity of Head Athletic Trainer including Virginia Union University, Saint Augustine’s University, and Elizabeth City State University.

He is married to Shannon Lovelace and they have two children Riley and Shanundre.
