Chavez Mabry

Chavez Mabry completed his first season as Head Coach of the Virginia State University Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs in 2022-23.

In his first season at the helm of women's tennis, Coach Mabry and the Trojans were Northern Division Champions in the conference after a 12-4 overall record and a 9-1 mark in CIAA action. Leading the men's tennis team, Coach Mabry went 0-10. 
 
Coach Mabry has been in charge of several tennis programs, from Parks and Recreation in Richmond to the NJTL in Alexandria, VA. He has also served as Head Pro for the Suffolk Tennis Association.
 
In 1995, Coach Mabry chose to become a certified teaching pro, by going to the mecca of tennis, the US. Open facility to become certified. He has taught several collegiate tennis players over his career as a high school tennis coach. He has taught the boys and girls teams at Nansemond River High School, T.C. Williams High School, and Indian River High School.
 
Coach Mabry owns his business, Three B’s: Books, Behavior, Business, LLC, where he raises money to help youth advance their careers on the tennis courts and other ventures. His goal is to develop positive attitudes towards winning as a team. Putting the <- together="" each="" accomplish="" more="">as they strive to use their physical ability and mental savvy to do the best they can as the coaching staff guides them to the state of maturity where one can become self- reliant as they embark on their future endeavors.
 
Coach Mabry was born in California and later moved to Suffolk, VA where in four years of High School he played number one on the Boys tennis team and won the Regional Title in 1984. He qualified that year for the State Tournament and lost in the Quarter Finals of the tournament. He was ranked as high as #10 in the Mid Atlantic 18 and under. Coach Mabry went on to play #1 for Virginia Union University in his junior and senior years. He then became Assistant Coach with the Men’s Tennis team at VUU under the leadership of Dr. John Watson from 1989-1991.
 
Coach Mabry has one son, Taron Marcus Dozier and one daughter, Kayla Chanel Lewis. He owes his mother, Fannie Mabry and brother Frankie Mabry everything for their continued support.
