A native of Brooklyn, NY, Anthony Mills graduated from Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield, VA and continued his education graduating from Virginia State University with a B.S in Teacher Education: Physical Education and a M.S in Sports Management.
Upon completion of his graduate studies, Coach Mills joined the women’s basketball coaching staff during the 2010-2011 season. Since then he has assisted and supported Head Coach James Hill in attaining 5 Division Championships, Conference Championships, 4 NCAA Berths, 5 Coach of the Year awards, as well as, being a 2x Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. During this time, the Head Coach has trusted him with the responsibility of recruiting, guard development, and teaching Head Coach James Hill’s defensive system.
When asked what his purpose as an Assistant coach, Coach Mills responded with
“My job as an assistant coach is to first learn my Head Coach and his system, and then to further assist and help him achieve his vision and goals for his program.”

Prior to joining the staff at Virginia State University, Coach Mills founded and establish Richmond USA Basketball Club, a youth basketball exposure team stationed out of Richmond, VA. He parted ways with the organization to finish his education and pursue college coaching in 2008. During that period, he also coached on the community and middle school levels. He achieved great success by winning championships and helping young athletes both academically and athletically.
Currently, as a member of the Virginia State University Athletic Dept. and is a young up-and-coming coach Anthony Mills is equipped with knowledge and intrinsic passion for the game of basketball.
