Almondo Curry

Almondo Curry is entering his first season as Virginia State Defensive Back Coach under the direction of first- year Head Coach Byron Thweatt and his coaching staff.

Curry comes to Virginia State University after spending the past three seasons (2012-2014) as Christopher Newport University Defensive Backs Coach. During his three seasons at CNU, Curry was part of two Conference Championships (2012 and 2014).

Curry is a product of Hampton High School and the University of Virginia, where he was a mainstay in the defensive backfield for Coach Al Groh's Cavaliers from 2000 to 2004. He was an All-ACC selection, and played professionally following his graduation with the Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League from 2004-06. 

From 2008-10, Curry began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater, Hampton High School. In 2011 he was the Defensive Coordinator at Heritage High School in Newport News.
 
Curry and his wife Lameka, have two daughters, Dayzja and Ava.
