Drew Williamson arrived to Virginia State University in 2013 to assist with the Trojans men’s basketball team.
 

In eight seasons at Virginia State, Williamson has helped lead the Trojans to 6 consecutive Northern Division titles, 2 conference tournament championships, and 4 NCAA tournament appearances with an average of 21 wins per season. 

The 2018-19 season was one for the record books for the Trojans, with 28 wins, they broke school the record of 25 which was set one year prior (2017-18).  The Trojans finished the season as regular season and conference champions, with winning streaks or 16 and 10 throughout the course of the season.

Along with Williamson’s on court duties, his responsibilities include but are not limited to scheduling, working as a liaison to the academic team and the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance.

Prior to becoming Assistant Coach at Virginia State, Williamson served as Director of Basketball operations for 2 seasons at Old Dominion University.  In this role he managed the complete administrative operations of the entire basketball program. This included the following: building community and media marketing relationships, liaison for ongoing community outreach, director of summer camps, providing support for the video editing and statistical breakdown of practice and competition, supporting the enhancement of student athlete academic performance and welfare and working closely with the Director of Finance to manage the travel budget.  Drew also worked in conjunction with the Head Basketball and the Assistant Athletic Director on scheduling events.

During his college basketball career from 2003-2007, Williamson made a name for himself with the Monarchs.  He holds the school record for consecutive career games played having made 130 appearances in the ODU uniform. He is the third all-time leader in steals with 215 and is seventh all-time at ODU and eighth all-time in the CAA in career assists with 555. Williamson holds the record of over 200 career steals and 500 career assists. While at Old Dominion, Williamson was a part of one of the winningest eras in Old Dominion History. In 3 year span from 2005-2007, the Monarchs won 81 games with 2 NCAA Tournament appearances and 1 NIT Final Four appearance.

Williamson played three years of professional basketball in Germany, and won the League Championship is last season before beginning coaching career.

Williamson, a native of Burlington, North Carolina, and wife Lauren have two children, Jaden (son), Avery (daughter).
