Bryan Underwood enters his second season on the Virginia State University men's basketball coaching staff after joining the program in January 2012. Coach Underwood was the head women's basketball coach at Virginia Union University for four seasons prior to coming to VSU.
Prior to being the head women's basketball coach at VUU, Underwood spent two seasons (2004-06), as an assistant coach for the men's basketball team at VUU. During the 2004-05 season, Virginia Union University won their third Division II National Championship and also won the 2005 CIAA Men’s Basketball Championship. After the 2005-06 season, Virginia Union finished as the Division II National runner-up, but were crowned 2006 CIAA Men’s Basketball champions.
Coach Underwood graduated from Virginia Union University with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 2005.
