Keith Braxton enters his second season at VSU as the Defensive Line Coach. Last season the Trojans finished 9-1, 7-0 CIAA en route to the Northern Division title. The Trojan defense finished 12th nationally and featured the Richmond Touchdown Club’s Co-Defensive Lineman of the year for Division II in Ronald Lewis and Bryant Frazier.
Braxton, a Beaverdam, VA native, comes to VSU from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. In seven seasons at Edinboro, he coached six All-PSAC West performers including PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year Chris Amico. Edinboro also made an appearance in the NCAA Playoffs in 2009. Prior to Edinboro, he spent five seasons at his alma mater Virginia Military Institute. In 2011, he participated in the NFL Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship program with the St. Louis Rams.
As a player, Braxton was a three-year starter and a captain as a senior. He started 35 games and finished his career with 195 total tackles. He earned a B.A. in History in 1998 and M.A. in Military History at Norwich University in 2010.
Coach Braxton is single and currently resides in Petersburg, VA.
