Coach Harris is in his fourth season as VSU Running Back Coach, third year as VSU Football Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and first season as Special Teams Coordinator.
As a Running Back Coach at VSU in 2017, Harris helped coach and mentor 2017 CIAA Player of the Year and 2018 NFL Sixth Round Draft Pick Trenton Cannon.
Prior to joining the staff at VSU, Harris served as the Head Football Coach and Associate Athletic Director at Richmond Christian School. While at Richmond Christian, Harris founded the Football program and led them to consecutive VISAA State Semi-Final Appearances in 2015 & 2016.
Prior to Richmond Christian, Coach Harris served as the Director of Football Performance at U-turn Sports Performance Academy, where he trained numerous professional and collegiate athletes in speed development, strength and conditioning and injury rehabilitation.
Coach Harris is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Harris earned his Masters of Science in Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and Bachelor of Science from Virginia State University in Health and Physical Education.
Harris attended Marshall Univ. prior to transferring to Virginia State University.
Harris is a native of Ettrick, Va. He attended Matoaca High School. Harris and his wife Joy has two sons Carlton Jr and Josiah.
