PETERSBURG, Va. (Sept. 12, 2026) – The Virginia State University men's soccer team dropped a 4-3 decision to Chestnut Hill College on Saturday at home in a back-and-forth contest that featured seven total goals.
The Trojans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, taking an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Iverson Garcia Montilla converted a chance off an assist from Diddier Rochez Martinez.
Chestnut Hill answered in the 17th minute when Robert Keegan found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
Garcia Montilla put the Trojans back in front in the 23rd minute, converting a penalty kick for his second goal of the afternoon. Virginia State extended its advantage just under two minutes later when Sebastine Daniel scored off an assist from Ibrahim Diabagate, giving the Trojans a 3-1 lead.
Chestnut Hill responded with three unanswered goals to regain the lead. Mohamed Bility scored in the 53rd minute before Kervening Thelistin added another goal in the 55th minute to bring the match level at 3-3.
Emmanuel Sampson completed the comeback for Chestnut Hill in the 72nd minute, scoring the eventual game-winning goal.
Virginia State continued to pressure the Chestnut Hill defense late in the match but was unable to find the equalizer.
Garcia Montilla led the Trojans offensively with two goals on five shots, including three shots on goal. Sebastine Daniel added a goal, while Rochez Martinez and Diabagate each recorded an assist.
Virginia State finished with 14 shots, including five on goal, while Chestnut Hill recorded 13 shots with seven on target. Jacob Taylor and Sean Roach combined for three saves for the Trojans.
