Virginia State falls to Bluefield State 11-2

BLUEFIELD, W. Va. --The Virginia State Trojans had a tough showing on Friday, falling to the Bluefield State Big Blues by final score of 11-2.

Junior Preston Branzelle (2-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Virginia State (8-11).

At the plate, the Trojans were led by sophomore Johnathan Smith, who went 1-for-3 on the day with two RBIs. Junior Samuel Young furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 7-0, the Trojans first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Virginia State picked up a pair of runs in the frame. The Trojans were unable to get any closer, as Bluefield State added four runs to their tally on the way to an 11-2 final.
