HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Virginia State University men's lacrosse team dropped a road contest to Alabama Huntsville, 23-5, on Tuesday afternoon at Charger Park.
The Trojans struck first, capitalizing on an early extra-man opportunity when Andre Bigham found the back of the net off an assist from Noah Byers to give VSU a 1-0 lead. However, Alabama Huntsville responded quickly and took control with a seven-goal first quarter to build a 7-1 advantage.
VSU showed resilience in the second quarter, getting goals from Devray Kirkland II and Bigham to cut into the deficit, but the Chargers continued their offensive surge, carrying a 13-3 lead into halftime.
The Trojans found a spark in the third period, as Byers and Miles Jackson each scored, narrowing the gap to 17-5. Despite the push, Alabama Huntsville maintained its momentum and closed out the game with six unanswered goals in the final quarter.
Bigham led the Trojans with two goals, while Byers and Kirkland II each added a goal and an assist. Jackson also contributed with a goal in the third period.
Defensively, goalkeeper Jace Wiggins recorded 20 saves while facing heavy pressure throughout the contest, as Alabama Huntsville outshot VSU 69-17.
