Virginia State Athletics Announces Marquel D. Broussard to Leadership Role

Ettrick, Va. (Mar. 10, 2026) — Marquel D. Broussard has been announced as the new Senior Associate AD for Student Success and Engagement by Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes

"Marquel's background in academic support, compliance, and athletics operations makes her a tremendous asset to our department," said Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes, Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at Virginia State University. "As both an HBCU alumna and a professional who has served at several HBCUs throughout her career, Marquel brings valuable perspective and experience within HBCU athletics. I have had the opportunity to see Marquel's work firsthand over the years, and her passion for student-athlete success is evident in everything she does."

Broussard joins VSU after most recently serving as Associate Athletics Director for Operations at Florida A&M University. In that role, she provided senior-level leadership across athletics operations, overseeing gameday and event management for 14 varsity sports while supervising more than 150 event staff members and up to 100 interns. She also led the department-wide internship program, aligning experiential learning opportunities with academic and career-readiness outcomes.

Prior to her role as Associate AD, Broussard served as Executive Assistant to the Vice President and Director of Athletics at FAMU, where she provided executive-level strategic and operational support. She managed confidential academic, compliance, and financial reporting processes and oversaw foundation accounts totaling more than $2 million in support of student-athlete programming. Her work strengthened collaboration between athletics, academic affairs, student affairs, conference offices, and external partners to ensure a holistic student-athlete experience.

Before her time at Florida A&M, Broussard served as Compliance Officer at Prairie View A&M University, where she led day-to-day NCAA compliance operations for approximately 350 student-athletes. She certified eligibility, monitored progress-toward-degree requirements, and provided comprehensive rules education to coaches, staff, and student-athletes.

Broussard also held multiple roles at Grambling State University, including Assistant Director for Compliance, Academic/Compliance Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant. During her tenure, she monitored academic progress for nearly 300 student-athletes, supervised study hall programming, managed a $300,000 athletics book scholarship budget, and supported nutrition services for hundreds of student-athletes annually.

A graduate of Grambling State University, Broussard earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Broussard's extensive experience in compliance, operations, academic oversight, and student-athlete engagement aligns with Virginia State's commitment to excellence in the classroom, competition, and community. Her leadership will play a vital role in advancing the department's mission of fostering academic achievement, retention, and degree completion for Trojan student athletes.
