Trojans surge past Davis & Elkins, 14-6

PETERSBURG, Va. (Feb. 12, 2026) – The Virginia State University men's lacrosse team used a dominant first half and a balanced offensive attack to earn a 14-6 victory over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday afternoon at Rogers Stadium.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 1-1 on the season.

Virginia State wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four first-quarter goals to take control early. Hayden Morrison opened the scoring at the 9:47 mark, followed by a goal from Jayden Quil less than 30 seconds later. Andre Bigham then capitalized on back-to-back man-up opportunities, scoring twice with assists from Devray Kirkland II to give VSU a 4-0 lead after one.

The Trojans continued their momentum in the second quarter. Bigham added his third goal of the afternoon, and Morrison and Kirkland II each found the back of the net as Virginia State built an 8-1 halftime advantage. VSU's defense limited Davis & Elkins to just two shots on goal in the opening quarter and maintained steady pressure throughout the half.

Virginia State extended its lead in the third quarter with three more goals. Kirkland II scored on a man-up opportunity, Noah Byers added a goal off an assist from Chris Farmer, and Miles Jackson netted an unassisted score to push the Trojans ahead 11-2 heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Amari Kennedy scored twice, while Byers added his second goal of the contest to cap the scoring for VSU.

Bigham led the Trojans with four goals and two assists for a six-point performance. Kirkland II finished with two goals and two assists, while Morrison added two goals and one assist. Kennedy and Byers each recorded two goals, and Jackson and Quil contributed one goal apiece. Allan Starks and Chris Farmer each dished out an assist.

Virginia State outshot Davis & Elkins 37-29 and held a 25-16 advantage in shots on goal. The Trojans also forced 26 turnovers while committing just 15 and went 3-for-7 on extra-man opportunities. Defensively, VSU collected 26 ground balls and tallied 11 caused turnovers.

Jace Wiggins earned the win in goal, recording eight saves in 45 minutes of action, while Arjun Warrier added two saves in relief.
