Men’s Soccer Falls on the Road at Chowa

Murfreesboro, N.C. (Sept. 10, 2025) – The Virginia State University men's soccer team dropped a tough road contest Wednesday evening, falling 6-2 to Chowan University.

The Hawks set the tone early, testing the Trojans' defense with three shots in the opening five minutes. Goalkeeper Elijah Fernandez kept VSU in it with an early save, but Chowan broke through in the 8th minute with a strike into the lower right corner. Another goal in the 15th minute gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead heading into halftime, as VSU was unable to register a shot in the first 45 minutes.

The Trojans came out strong to start the second half. In the 47th minute, Sebastine Daniel capitalized on VSU's first attempt of the night, scoring his second goal of the season with a finish into the top right corner to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Chowan responded quickly with back-to-back goals in the 50th minute to push their lead to 4-1. The Hawks added another in the 62nd minute and 90th minute before Edmond Ngwe found the back of the net for the Trojans just before the final whistle.

With the loss, VSU drops to 0-2 on the season. The Trojans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when they travel to take on Emory & Henry. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
