Virginia State University Softball Team Shines on Senior Day with a Dominating Doubleheader Victory Over Virginia Union


Ettrick, VA—It was senior day for the Virginia State University softball team, which hosted the Virginia Union Panthers in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Game 1 VSU 8 vs VUU 5

The match began with Virginia Union struggling to find its footing, unable to score against Virginia State's relentless defense in the first three innings. Meanwhile, Virginia State was in its element, racking up runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th innings, showcasing their offensive firepower and capitalizing on every opportunity.

Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Virginia Union turned the tide in the 6th inning, finally breaking through with 2 key runs that reignited the excitement in the stands. Buoyed by this momentum, they stormed into the 7th inning, adding 3 more runs and narrowing the score to 8-5. The atmosphere was electric as fans held their breath, but despite their spirited fight, Virginia State's early lead proved too daunting to surpass, sealing their thrilling victory in this captivating contest.

Game 2 VSU 10 vs VUU 0

Virginia Union struggled early on, failing to score through the first five innings as Virginia State's defense shut them down. Despite having runners on base, they couldn't convert those chances into runs.
The game took a turn in the bottom of the 2nd when Virginia State erupted for a stunning 6-run inning. Their bats were on fire, and aggressive base running took full advantage of Virginia Union's mistakes, ballooning their lead to 10-0 by the end of the 4th.

 Virginia State's defense was equally impressive, thwarting every Virginia Union attempt to rally. With exceptional fielding and pitching, they kept their opponents scoreless throughout the game. Ultimately, Virginia State's combination of a powerful offense and sharp defense secured a decisive victory, highlighting their prowess while leaving Virginia Union to grapple with missed opportunities.

The Trojans will participate in the 2025 CIAA Softball Tournament, which is scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 3.
