Ettrick, Va. (Mar. 29, 2025)- The Virginia State University baseball team swept Lincoln (Pa.) University 4-3 in game one and 5-4 in game two. Erik Romero hit a walk off fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh in game two. 

GAME 1 VSU 4 LUPA 3 

• In the bottom of the first Thomas Ealey hit a one out single, Jaquan Tucker then worked a two out walk to get runners on first and second. Jaden Guthrie was then hit by the pitch to load the bases. Victor Johnson then walked to score the first run 

• LUPA hit a single in the top of the second but both Lincoln and VSU did not score in the second 

• Ealy led off the bottom of the third and singled then stole second. TJ McGowan then laid down a sac bunt to advance hi to third and Tucker then hit a sac fly to score Ealey 

• In the bottom of the fifth Marquis Smith started with a double, David Johnson then got on via a fielder's choice to set up runners on the corners. Ealey then walked to load the bases. McGowan then walked to score a run before Tucker then hit another sac fly to make it 4-0 

• Preston Branzelle continued to shut down the Lions up till the seventh inning. After hitting the 100 pitch mark the Lions managed to score three runs before a groundout to third secured the win for VSU 

• Branzelle picked up his second win on the season 

GAME 2 VSU 5 LUPA 4 

• Neither team scored in the first despite getting runners in scoring position 

• Gavin Stevens then sat down LUPA in order in the top of the second. Josh Mahan then hit a one out single to left which was followed by a Smith two out single to left field. Ealey kept the inning alive with a single to right. Norman Jackson then walked in a run 

• The Lions then exploded for four runs in the third inning 

• Back-to-back one out doubles by Johnson and Jaron Ward got one run back for the Trojans 

• Both pitchers then shut down the offenses until the bottom of the seventh 

• McGowan started the inning off with a walk, Johnson then got HBP and Ward was HBP a pitch by the new pitcher. With the bases loaded and one out D. Johnson then had a pinch hit single to center field to make it 4-3. Romero the pinch hit and delivered a walk off fielder's choice winning the game for VSU 5-4 

• Stevens won his first game on the season 

With the win VSU improved to 4-12 and has won back-to-back games for the first time this season. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow for a 1 pm nine inning game.
