Right out of the gate, Virginia State wasted no time making their mark. In the top of the first, Lauren Parham set the table with a sharp single, and Mylia Knight came through with a clutch hit to center field, bringing Parham home to give Virginia State an early 1-0 lead. The tone was set, and there was no looking back.
If the first inning didn't already signal what was to come, the second inning surely did. Virginia State's offense erupted for a jaw-dropping five-run explosion. A walk from Alaijah Pratt set things in motion, and then Reina Washington, Maisie Goodwin, and Hailey Darrington all crossed the plate in a fast-paced onslaught. By the time Lauren Parham scored once more, Virginia State had surged ahead, taking a commanding 6-0 lead.
Despite some early opportunities, Livingstone couldn't get anything going. In the bottom of the second, even after a hit-by-pitch, they were unable to capitalize, and Virginia State's defense kept them off the scoreboard. As the innings went on, Livingstone's hopes of mounting a comeback continued to slip further away.
As the game wore on, Virginia State showed no mercy. The offense kept pressing, and in the fourth inning, they added two more runs to make it 8-0. Jaya Diggs-Hagwood and Mylia Knight both scored, and even though Livingstone had a few runners reach base, they simply couldn't break through Virginia State's impenetrable defense.
It was a performance of total domination. The offense was relentless, the defense was airtight, and the pitching was spot-on. Virginia State didn't give Livingstone a chance to mount any serious threat throughout the game. With solid contributions from every corner of the roster, Virginia State made their statement loud and clear: they came to win, and win big.
