Trojans late inning heroics not enough in game one; VSU drops Sunday doubleheader

Ettrick, Va. (Feb. 9, 2025)- In game one the Trojans put up four runs in the fifth inning, but it was not enough as game one was a 6-4 decision in favor of Lock Haven and game two was dropped 19-5. 

Game 1 VSU 4 LHU 6 

  • LHU started the game with a pair of walks. An error then loaded the bases before a passed ball let the first run come across 

  • In the third inning the Bald Eagles used a two out double to bring in two more runs making it 3-0 

  • After collecting hits in both the first and second the Trojans wouldn't find another until the fifth. In that inning Jaron ward would start with a walk, followed by a single up the middle by Victor Johnson. Hector Rivera would hit a one out single to score Ward. Jaden Guthrie kept the scoring coming after a single to short allowing two more to score. Thomas Ealey singled to right to collect an RBI 

  • Neither team would add in the sixth and both would go down in order in the seventh 

Game 2 VSU 5 LHU 19 

  • Both teams both sent up four to the plate in the first inning but in the second inning the Bald Eagles put up four runs on five hits. 

  • Norman Jackson hit a one out single in the bottom half followed by a walk to Erik Romero to put a Trojan in scoring position however he wouldn't come around to score 

  • In the fourth Lock Haven put up a 10 spot, highlighted by a three-run home run 

  • The Trojans would finally get on the board in the fifth inning, Rivera started with a one out walk. Ealy then singled through the left side with both advancing on a wild pitch to get two men in scoring position. David Johnson singled to second to score Rivera and advanced to second on the throw home. TJ McGowan then hit a sacrifice fly to plate the third run of the inning 

  • Next inning VSU added two more runs in the sixth.  Gene Ligon Jr. was hit by a pitch. Jackson then walked; Romero then hit a double down the left field line to score Ligon Jr. Thomas Chandler then grounded out to second to bring home another run. 

  • LHU added five more runs in the top of the seventh and kept the Trojans off the board 

VSU now moves to 0-7 on the season and will be back in action Sunday February 16 against Davis & Elkins at 1 pm.
