Virginia State Dominates Livingstone for the Victory

Virginia State Dominates Livingstone for the Victory

Ettrick, VA
- In a hard-fought matchup, Virginia State overpowered Livingstone 82-63, securing a commanding victory behind an all-around strong performance. Standout performances led Virginia State's offense from Anii Harris and Carmen Kweti while Livingstone's efforts fell short despite some individual highlights.

Virginia State had a well-rounded performance, with multiple players contributing offensively. Harris was the star of the game, scoring 20 points and pulling down 6 rebounds while adding 3 assists. Her shooting was efficient, finishing 8-of-14 from the field and adding a 3-pointer. Tiyanna James chipped in 13 points and 4 assists, including two 3-pointers, and Mihjae Hayes contributed 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. However, it was Kweti's dominance on the boards that truly set Virginia State apart. With 20 rebounds, she single-handedly out-rebounded many of the opposing players and scored 12 points as well.

Virginia State shot 50% from the field, converting 33 of their 66 attempts, and was effective on defense, limiting Livingstone's scoring chances. They were also excellent at capitalizing on turnovers, scoring 18 points off Livingstone's mistakes. Additionally, the team's fast break offense was a major factor, contributing 27 points. Their success in the paint was evident, as they finished with 50 points in the lane, an area in which they outclassed their opponents.

While Livingstone put up a fight, their shooting struggles proved costly. The team shot just 28.8% from the field, converting only 23 of their 80 attempts. They also struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only 4 of 21 three-point attempts (19%). Despite these challenges, Reaves, Nielle was a bright spot, scoring 15 points while adding 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Kelson and Morgan contributed 9 points and 7 rebounds, while Bates, Boston had 9 points off the bench.

Livingstone did have a solid free throw shooting performance, hitting 13 of 16 attempts (81.3%), but their lack of shooting efficiency from the floor and inability to match Virginia State's fast break points (6 for Livingstone vs. 27 for Virginia State) put them at a disadvantage.

One key factor in Virginia State's success was its overwhelming rebounding performance. The team collected 55 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards, compared to Livingstone's 35 total rebounds. This dominance on the glass allowed Virginia State to capitalize on second-chance opportunities, scoring 10 second-chance points.

Livingstone's bench provided a significant lift, scoring 36 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Virginia State's overall dominance in nearly every category. Despite some individual efforts, Livingstone couldn't keep pace with Virginia State's rebounding and fast-break scoring.
