Trojans travel to Mountain State for showdown with Big Blue

Ettrick, Va (Oct. 25, 2024)- The Virginia State University football team will travel to West Virginia to take on Bluefield State University. Last season the teams played with VSU winning 39-23 in Bluefield State's first year back in the CIAA conference. 

VSU is coming off a dominate 36-7 victory over Elizabeth City State University. The Trojans compiled 528 total yards of offense and only allowed 105 yards of total offense for the Vikings. ECSU finished with –47 rushing yards due to the Trojans defense recording 11 sacks. Jayshaun Alston had four of the 11 sacks. Jimmyll Williams finished the game with 194 total yards and three touchdowns. On the season the Trojans score 26.5 points per game while allowing 16.1 points per game which is 20th in the nation. The Trojans put up 370 yards per game while getting 165.9 yards on the ground. 

Bluefield State is currently 1-6 under first year head coach Davon Morgan.  Last game the Big Blue were shut out 54-0 against Bowie State. The Big Blue only had 60 total yards of offense. On the season BSU averages 10.1 points per game while they give up 36.4 points per game. They average 234.4 yards per game and 180.8 of those yards are gotten through the air.  

The game is scheduled for Saturday October 26 at 6 p.m. This will be the first primetime game for the Trojans this season after playing two games at 4 p.m. to start the season.
