Ettrick, Va (Oct. 11, 2024)- The Virginia State University Football team (2-3, 1-2) welcome the Bowie State Bulldogs (1-4, 0-2) to Rogers Stadium for Homecoming. Both teams are coming off close losses in their last games respectfully.
VSU is coming off a 21-17 setback at the hands of Johnson C. Smith. This game will be the third home game for the Trojans. In the last two home games the team has lost a one point. game to Winston-Salem State 15-14 and then dominated Fayetteville State 35-18. Virginia State has two running backs that will get carries, Jimmyll Williams will be the starter with Tylique Ray as the backup. Romelo Williams is the man under center as he is a true dual threat as he has thrown for 869 yards and ran for 136 yards. Kevin Gayles is third in the CIAA in receiving touchdowns with five and first in average yards per catch at 35.9.
Bowie State is coming off a walk off field goal loss to Fayetteville State 27-24. This will be the third straight away game for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs bring in a good rushing attack as three players have over 100 yards on the ground for the season. The quarterback for Bowie State is Kevin Taylor who has 708 yards passing with eight touchdowns. Defensively both teams are similar as the Trojans only give up 18 points a game to Bowie State's 24 points per game.
The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
