Ettirck, Va. (Jan. 16, 2024)- For the second time this season the Virginia State University (15-1) women's basketball team hit the 100-point mark in a rout of Newport News Apprentice, 100-48. 
Over the first seven minutes of the first quarter the Trojans went on an 18-4 run. During the run Tiyanna James hit three three-pointers to produce half the points in the run. After the opening 10 minutes VSU would go into the second quarter with a 15-point advantage, 25-10. In the second stanza over the opening 3:39 VSU scored 13 of the first 15 points. The teams would play back and forth until there was 90 seconds left in the half. In the last 1:30 the Trojans went on a 10-2 run to make the halftime score 55-22. The team never looked back from that point  
In the third quarter VSU would grow their lead to 50 points on multiple occasions and would finally hit the century mark with 25 seconds left in the fourth with a pair of foul shots by Kamryn Anthony. Five different Trojans scored in double figures, James with 17, Cabria Lewis (15), Tatiana Jones (14), Amesha Miller (11) and Mihjae Hayes (10). Both Miller and Tat. Jones had double doubles with rebounds and Cabria Lewis was close with 7 assists.  
The next game for the Trojans will be an away game against Virginia Union in the Freedom Classic on Saturday January 20 at 3 p.m.
